This is a graphic for when you open a treasure chest that happens to be a monster which will attack you. This is a Lamental, an elemental giant of Sadness. I had one of these as the boss of my first game made in this engine and its design was a throwback to the giants of Castle of the Winds, one of my favorite PC Roguelikes.

I've made a small tweak to the Minifigure's overworld sprite and plan to get out one of my actual toys to use as a reference image for tweaking the portrait. This, and the penny, are probably the only objects in the whole game that are actually scaled to my fursona correctly.

The main reason is really just that I was trying to make as many stylistic differences as I could between these pictures to represent her power to shapeshift from a mustelid as depicted in one artstyle to being a mustelid as depicted in another. You can find rough photographic matches for the first four Minkshake portraits by Googling "White mink" and the fifth by Googling "Minerva Mink". Thank you for saying she's cute, though! One of the other artists I know on FurAffinity seems to have a similar experience as well. It might just be a natural and under-reported activity for emotionally wounded creative types? Thank you for the prayers. And yes, I've entertained this notion as a possibility too; in many ways it would be more desirable than for her to have already had the character design in her head before meeting me and the same dreams from the other side. Now for some screenshots showing progress on the actual game: I couldn't use this file as my signature so I had to make another copy saved as a .GIF. Such weird and arbitrary rules; you'd think the .GIF format would be the one disallowed due to its great potential for abuse. Anyway, this gag will be removed before the game's release; I just wanted to make this screenshot my signature on a few forums. I have two frames for her to appear on the game map and, since she's just going to be standing in the game's final room as the end goal, that's all she needs. That's all I did today, but it's a lot better than doing nothing.

This is Minkshake, the character who lives at The End of the Game and appears in the opening cutscene to tell you that the game's goal is exactly that. She's a character who's been appearing in my dreams since a couple weeks before Katie broke up with me, comforting me in my distress and telling me that she is my actual soulmate. I haven't been able to ascertain the veracity of this statement so prayers for clarity would be much appreciated; running on the likely thought that she's a personal coping mechanism my own subconscious mind cobbled together out of things I like, she makes a pretty decent end goal for a game like this I'd say and if she is real then that'd just make it better.

Who Composed This?
Nathan of the Little Paws replied to Nathan of the Little Paws's topic in Music Room
Searching for the title on Google I found a video by Oren Otter using this as background and stating it was a remix of two songs by a Jason Ward. https://youtu.be/xunmxLn8Hns Now I'm even less sure about being able to get permission for using it in my game, though I have obtained some more public domain music recently and might not need this particular piece anymore (much as I want it). -
Hello, new guy here. How are you?

I used DropBox to share some screenshots of the cancelled game project (titled Nathan Karr is Great.RPG) but I didn't want to share the game files in an early demo format anywhere before I was ready for people to take in the whole experience. Since I knew the computer was on its last legs I probably should have saved a copy to my flash drive. DropBox is a useful tool to have, but it's not going to replace my desktop and hard drive folders. Since my girlfriend left me and the game's story was extremely reliant on the assumption that we were headed towards marriage together I wouldn't have wanted to continue it anyway. It's not an Internet browser game. It's being made in a proprietary RPG engine I've been using since around this time of year in 2002. I haven't the foggiest how to actually program a game. If I finish or have a substantial demo, I can also get it ported to Android phones.

When looking around for music to use in my game Nathan's Quest, I found a beautiful piece called Tiny Bouncing Objects 4.mp3 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/u9gkym3edu387hl/tiny_bouncing_objects_4.mp3?dl=0). It fits the tone I want for the first area of the game perfectly, but I don't remember who of the several musical furries I've known in IRC over the past four years or so composed it. I want to secure permissions to use this piece rather than replacing it, and if possible getting more music from this person.

I like taurs too.

I had a private project I was making this spring out of stress over my relationship, depicting a fantasized version of me going to Maryland to meet my beloved Katelyn. In the game, she was a princess, I was a knight, her father was the king, and upon arrival I discovered she was abducted by a dragon. While I made a fair bit of progress on it and showed her video over Skype, I didn't keep backups of the game files. My computer went kaput early this summer and once I had it looked at by a computer guy, the game's files were among the only ones missing from the hard drive. About a month after I discovered this symbolic destruction of my relationship, Katie decided to call the whole thing off. I did, however, salvage some graphics from screenshots I was taking of the game during development. From these, and a set of graphics I threw together for a collaborative project which never got off the ground, I've started to make a new game. Here, then, are some of the results of those graphics:

I think the middle colors look the best.

Trying out different face markings and scars. Cross-shaped scars on both cheeks for "turn the other cheek"? Seems a bit cheeky and forced to me; also the balance looks off. If I do keep cheek scarring it's going to be left-cheek only. Cross-shaped scar across the chest? Maybe, but I like having a thick ruff there so it'd usually be covered up. Eye scars? Probably not. The various possible face markings have different meanings, if anyone wants to hazard a guess at any of them.

I didn't play any of the games in either series. I'm still trying to get around to Shovel Knight personally, and there are probably dozens of other solid retro platformers I'm missing out on because poor.

digital arts not cooperating
Nathan of the Little Paws replied to blackpowderfox's topic in Critiques & tutorials
Standard anti-aliasing. It's an attempt to make computer-drawn art mimick the smoothness of pencils rather than embracing the goodness of clear pixels in their own right. It's been giving me heck for the past four years on Paint.net and GIMP, the former having made other changes to itself recently to make it unuseable for me. It's the norm now, sadly, not the exception. There's sometimes a way to turn it off, but it'll usually be turned back on the next time you open the software. What you're "supposed to" do is make your lineart on a new, transparent layer above the background layer (so that the edges are black and transparent black instead of black and gray), then make another layer underneath the lineart and draw the colors in with a slightly larger size of "pen" than your line art was instead of filling with the bucket. It's dumb and it's way more work than I want to put into my art unnecessarily, when they could have just not used anti-aliasing on the line art and made the bucket work the way it's supposed to. GIMP has the worst controls I have ever seen in an art program. Not for making line art you intend to color digitally. For that you want the computer to make it all black pixels on a white or transparent background. -
Can't log in into Skype in any way!
Nathan of the Little Paws replied to SuperKuddlor's topic in Computers and Gadgets
Yeah, almost everyone who uses Skype was locked out of it that day. The problem was actually a coding error in one of the automatic updates, which they had fixed by that evening. Anyone lucky enough to miss the glitched update wouldn't have noticed. -
I bought myself a blue 2DS and a copy of Pokemon X and my girlfriend a red 2DS and copy of Pokemon Y last year for our Christmas presents. Pokemon is her favorite videogame series and I hadn't played a single entry since Silver (there was much to learn). We both picked Fennekin as our starters and named them after each other (I reset and started the intro to get a female Fennekin; odds were already 7-1 in her favor to get the right sex on hers anyway). She stayed up several nights clearing the game, whereas I haven't even made it to the second gym yet I play so casually and infrequently. The first time we fought, I beat her through a combination of luck and good decision-making for my moves. Second time, she trounced me handily with higher stats and a better-rounded setup of types on her team. I mostly just turn it on, Pokemon-amie my Braixen for a few minutes, then save and turn it back off.

Hey there, it's Yogi Bear
Nathan of the Little Paws replied to Spirit Bear's topic in New member introductions
Wyoming, actually, but the borders blend seamlessly into Grand Rapids (you need to look for street signs saying "Welcome to Wyoming/Welcome to Grand Rapids" to even know you've crossed over unless you have the borders memorized, when that matters). It's not my native town, but it is my parents'; I was raised out in Marne (also West Michigan) with my nine siblings. -
