  1. As much as it isn't glamorous and might even sound boring, take a sketch pad around your place and do still art and scenery. Especially pay attention to and try to capture light and shadow. You may even want to fiddle around with lamps, windows and subject matter to get the sort lighting you want to try to draw in your home. More than any other suggestion, I think that will help you figure out how to draw light. Maybe after you get a good grasp on realistic lighting, the stylized lighting that really makes pictures pop will come much easier. And there's plenty of artists around DA and FA with examples that can help you get a good idea of where to go when you want to try some of the stylized stuff.
  2. As an experiment, I'd call that excellent. Looks like you put a lot of work into it. Thanks so much for sharing! Sadly, I can't really talk to fursuits or construction, but if I had to take a stab at some of the feedback, it seems like the ankles connect a bit far forward on the feet, makes them look somewhat stumpy at certain angles. But overall, the chance to see her prowl around would make me smile. I look forward to your next project! Maybe you'll even manage that feline concept art and branch out on your options a bit. ~_^
  3. Invest in an external hard drive. Typical flash memory is rather error prone last I heard.
  4. Thanks, Direlda, that was something special.
  5. Come now, that's cheating. And a wiki would be a rubbish way of learning about the Amnesia games. The Amnesia series never quite hooked me in to playing them, so I can only enjoy them from the stories other people tell. So do tell.
  6. Keep it up! You've definitely got budding talent.
  7. The expressions there are wonderful. Hope to see more from you! ^^
  8. That's coming along very nicely! Hope to see the full suit soon. ^^
  9. You know, discussing daily devotionals would be good for me. I'll gladly chat with you about them...just have to get my home internet back first (hopefully today >.<). And thanks in return! (It's still kinda a work in progress. <.<)
  10. Hello and welcome! That's a wonderful avatar, by the by.
  11. You don't need a lot of graphics work if you can make a consistent aesthetic that works with clever simplification of asset use. The flash game Fear Less! is an excellent example. There's really not a lot of art or animation in the game, but what's there is excellent and it's wonderful for it. Dwarf Fortress, as mentioned, is a decent example too. Sounds and, I think, music can be had from creative commons sites specifically for freeware type games as long as you credit the sources. Thinking about it, you might even be able to pick up art assets from similar sites.
  12. Couple days ago, I was standing behind an older Asian lady in Target's checkout line and simply watched as she bought clothes on the cheap with wads of ones. I knew I should have bought the shirt she couldn't for her, I knew that feeling was you, but I hemmed, hawed, and hesitated in my mind. I let myself waffle against the vague sense I had of my finances after losing internet made it harder for me to keep up on them, against my nervousness over having to pay for a replacement vehicle, and against my shyness. I mean, if it had really mattered, I could have forgone the anxiety binge purchase I was making then. I let the moment pass over less than silly excuses, sad nothings really, and now I don't know what plans of yours I screwed up because I botched that crossroad in time. I should have trusted you, I should have had faith. Thinking about it, I could even have been clever by returning her thanks with 'God blesses you' and left it at that. But no, I froze on the inside instead. This I confess.
  13. Hmmmn, well, don't take this as discouragement but rather trying to ground you for the path ahead. Saying that you can make a game like Dust: Elysian Tail is a massive claim, and I can't help but feel skeptical, especially as that game is 60% assets, 20% code, 20% polish, 80% vision, and 95% determination. And I'm saying this as someone who, along with a friend, made a one level schmup around late high school. Solo, I did a program that simulated a JRPG style turn-based battle system with a client-host 'multiplayer' setup to a late Beta state. I also tried to create an actual JRPG ATB battle system, but got mired in crash causing bugs until the project fell apart. That, and even after reading up on new Javascript and HTML5 capabilities, I'm really skeptical of using it for any game that's supposed to last more than 15-30 minutes a full playthrough and/or not rely on a server database to manage data. so I have to ask - Have you made a full game before, Hybrilynx? You have desire and enthusiasm, but not much to call 'vision', nor a plan to speak of besides coding something into a 3DS browser. You seem to be fishing around for a project lead and coordinator with little to entice someone who knows just how much you're asking of them, nevermind enough knowledge or experience of the process to have even odds of pulling it off. In short, you need to work on your pitch and probably get a volunteer for the art before this can go anywhere. My biggest hitch is whether or not I'm ready to dedicate myself to a real project again, despite myself. Second is doing this in Javascript, which I otherwise really enjoy fiddling with to make UI improvements on web pages. A Java App or learning to build Flash programs would be my preference, even knowing the hassle of learning a new dev environment on the cheap or free.
  14. PS: The RPG is a terrible, terrible genre to have your first game be modeled after. There's systems upon systems that all have to interact with each other, not to mention the content and balancing that goes into such a thing. RPGs are some of the hardest games to make out there, period. For a first game exercise, you want something like a simple platformer or schmup at worst, Tetris and Asteroids more ideally. Take the simplest of games on Kongregate or Newgrounds, and then think simpler.
  15. Well, to piggyback on Jude a bit, making video games is a lot more time and effort intensive than we like to think. And I'm talking about those of us who kind of know what we're doing. I've been wanting to start a game project for years, and I've never quite mustered the will or perseverance for various reasons that I hope are fading. Anyway, long story short, you should start with a very small project - Asteroids small - and complete that very simple game before trying for anything more. Plan it out, scope it down to something very narrow and precise, and then figure out who is going to do what pieces and exactly what those pieces are going to look like, and only then start the thing. Once that small game is complete, then you can look to a bit bigger project that, once it's also done, can be further built upon and iterated out to become the game you're hoping for right now. For all the advice I've read, and believe me, I've read a lot, starting very, very small is key. And you are thinking Java proper, right Hybrilynx? The Javascript I know is a very basic form of C/C++ that runs in browsers.
  16. Welcome, T. D.! Glad to have you around. ^^
  17. Hello and welcome to the forums! ^^
  18. Oh right. SYRSAmusic has a really ambient style, mostly because of the the mix and the instruments he uses. I kinda like it and then it kinda can't really keep my attention. Makes me wish that he or someone else would take his arrangements and sorta upmix them - more dynamic levels and higher definition instruments - but I also think that part of it is some lack of negative or empty space in his arrangements, areas in either the score or the frequencies used that could be dead to better highlight what the music is doing elsewhere. It's all a bit too similar. Either way, the end result would be akin to an old favorite of mine - The Glass Moon If Syrsa grew as a mixer and composer a bit, he could probably get his musical hooks in me.
  19. Lindsey Stirling reminds me of Bond, which is a good thing. For the dubstep theme, my favorite is Quicksander. But the instrumental version of Crystal Mathematics may be more your thing, Chakram.
  20. Not quite, Wolveon. I enjoy music on the borderlands of Metal Core and similar, and tastes shift now and again. The Zombie EP by The Devil Wears Prada is fun, despite being on the other side of that border. August Burns Red gets me on the instrumentals sometimes, notably Meridian. Demon Hunter has a few great tracks like God Forsaken, One Thousand Apologies, and Deteriorate. Below is my present kick, and you might like some of them too. Rise Against (Savior, Satellite) Spoken (Illusion album) Bullet For My Valentine (Notably the Fever album) Over and Under ~ Egypt Central Dynasty Warriors 4 OST - Eve
  21. Hello and welcome! Hope you enjoy what you find.
