It must be said straight away that if I come across as a trolling jerk in any way, I apologize in advance. I come with questions that need answering, and while it's hardly my intent, I can see how one could misinterpret such questions as insults, or intentionally prodding at beliefs for no higher purpose than to prod at beliefs.

 

The whole point of this thread is this; what exactly IS a Christian furry?

 

Sure, the answer seems obvious enough, a furry who happens to also believe in and follow the teachings of Christ. But in my research, I can't even come up with a finite conclusion as to what a furry on its own is. Does a furry have to make SOME kind of contribution to the fandom (art, stories, etc.) instead of simply partaking in it like those belonging to most other fandoms? Is it someone who simply enjoys the existence of anthropomorphic animals in popular art (a fairly popular definition, if a little weak, imho)? Does a furry only exist if he/she creates a fursona for him/herself? Heck, I once courted a self-described furry, but not even SHE could explain what that meant.

 

It's easy enough for me to identify with the other Christians in the world (except for those "GOD HATES F@GS" people; way to fail in more ways than you can count, folks... ), but I can't tell if I would exactly call myself a furry or not. Is my enjoying a few furry webcomics (admittedly, none of which regularly revolve around particularly spiritual themes) enough to make me a part of the fandom? And I thought that being a Christian would negate any possibility of being a furry in the first place. One could easily argue that ancient Egypt and Greece were civilizations of furries with several human/animal creatures in their mythologies, but as Christians, we should be trying to not emulate their lifestyles. With so many gay themes that have made their way into furry art, characters, and stories, this looks like something that Christians should be wanting to wash their hands of completely. I'm also reminded of a Christian-based protest outside of some furry convention (I think it was Anthrocon, but I can't recall for sure), where they were picketing the guests and patrons for worshipping false images instead of God. And on the topic of false worship, does Christ-based furrydom run the risk of sending out mixed messages? I mean, the non-Christian world is already pretty apt to interpretting Christians as a group of weirdos who are under the dellusion of some higher power running the universe. With the fur fandom based entirely in fiction (or am I missing something here?), couldn't that just take the wind out of whatever perfectly valid arguements we have for why we need to worship God, who too many people consider fictional already?

 

Again, I am a Christian, but I'm confused about whether I'd call myself a furry or not, or if doing so would even make sense. I could use a little insight, if there's any that could be spared...:-/

im not sure what to say, becuz i forget things easily like most of the things you said, but a furry Christian is real & possible. sure, furries are probably mostly used for evil, but its not that different from music. rap, is mostly evil and people talking about drugs, well you know. but it doesnt mean that music itself is only evil. so being a furry doesnt mean its anything bad as long as if your not using for a bad reason.

A furry is simply someone who enjoys and appreciates anthropomorphic animals in fiction, or "talking animal fiction". It doesn't HAVE to be a lifestyle like so many make it out to be... to most it's a hobby and nothing more. The problem is that the most outspoken furries are often the most eccentric or depraved which has done nothing but make the fandom one of the most despised in the world.

 

And, not to sound critical, this is the wrong place for you to post this. This is where you're supposed to introduce yourself. This thread would be better in the Furry or Christian discussions group.

 

I hope we can make you feel at home here if you plan to stay... and no, you don't have to be a furry to stay here. This is a place where poeple who love God and fellowship just so happen to share the same interests, just like the Christian Otaku and Gamer sites.

We're just a group of Christians that say "Hey, we like talking animals". Kinda reaching God's love to places where other ministries wouldn't even think about, no less go.

Furry seems pretty harmless to me. Every fandom/social group has its own perversions though, and furries are no exception. As long as people don't associate me with yiff and other stuff like that, I've got no problem calling myself furry or being called furry. If, however, I know the person would associate me with such things, I make a point to show that that's not the case with all furries, they aren't all perverts (or "furverts", if you prefer that term).

 

To me, being furry is no different than being a gamer or an anime fan or a sports junkie.
