Tablet Fixed/New 'Sona Critique

I got my tablet working again. FINALLY!

 

Anyway, I thought my current avvie looks too... cat-like in the face, so I started another one. I only have the rough sketch made and before I flesh it out and ink it I just wanted some constructive criticism and feedback. What needs to be fixed, suggestions, etc...

i might as well ask since i dont know how to ask this on google. how did you add color to your last avatar? well im asking if you used a computer or something, or even if you didnt. becuz i dont know how people can draw things and color them like these:

overall you should know what im trying to ask. i dont know how they make those pictures (i dont know if anyone else does) but i would be happy if someone could tell me how, anyone.

I downloaded a FREE program called GIMP (google it). It works exactly like Photoshop, but more user-friendly and has a simpler interface. To get the full use of it you need a tablet.

 

I'm not good at painting digitally, though I am improving.

 

Only bad thing is, the GIMP dowloads include a bunch of other useless freeware. If you download it, prepare to uninstall a bunch of stuff you don't need <=\

 

To make art like the artwork in the links, however, takes YEARS of practice, a steady hand, and a 3D rendering program.

Every other site I've tried also hs some SmartDownload system where you are forced to install a bunch of freeware alongside GIMP. If you refuse it, you don't get GIMP T^T

When I first downloaded it, all I had to get was the program. But when my old laptop crashed and I had to buy a new one, when I went to go get GIMP again I had to get all the useless programs along with it <=|

i always thought "tablet" was like a notebook or something (made of paper). i just searched tablet on google images (yes really, i did) and i saw nothing made of paper.

Mine is a Wacom BAMBOO Fun. Nice little piece of hardware that makes digital art SO much easier

I draw with a pencil, then go over the lines I want to keep with a pen, then erase all the visible pencil marks. Then I scan it into my computer and apply a threshold so it all goes to two colors and I don't have to clean up all the little white dots. From there I can just use fill tools, pencil tools, brush tools, etc.

 

And all that because I'm too cheap to buy a tablet xD

www.gimp.org is the official website. I'm currently downloading the newest version, so I can see if it has other useless programs.

 

I've been using The GIMP since 2005, and I don't remember ever having other programs install with it, though. Unless you mean the gtk runtime environment, which is needed to run GIMP under Windows (or at least it used to be).

 

EDIT: Just installed GIMP 2.6.11, and no sign of useless programs.

That's wierd... I downloaded it from GIMP.org, too. It had a notification that it was now offering GIMP through a 3rd party and when I opened the file after downloading it, I was taken to a SmartDownload menu and had to download other things, like the iPlay bar and online shopping toolbars and stuff <=|

 

Also... why no critiques?!

i have gimp actually, but it doesnt let me make anything like these:

or at least not that i know of. i also dont remember if it came with junk things when i first downloaded it (months ago i think). i do know i do have alot of junk on my computer though.

1) - Those are 3D models

2) - It is possible to make art in GIMP that good... if you ARE that good

3) - To make art like that you need a tablet, no exceptions.

It sounds like you might have something malicious on your computer causing that? I just now went to download it and it didn't come with anything and downloaded from their sourcefoarge page.

 

Its good so far. I'm curious to see it fleshed out. I'm not that smart with this kind of stuff so I can't really say anything about the basic outline.

So, keep it up, I'm wanting to see the finished product of this.
