Machinistic Momentum

Recommended Posts

As some of you already well know, I have been needing a computer. I've never owned a "gud" computer but tax season was coming so I made a plan.

Mr. Mud was kind enough to make me a list of parts and now they are arriving a few at a time. I'll be posting progress and problems along the way for interested parties.

O.o why oh why.... SIX MONITORS?!!?!??!?

Needless to say I'm excited/intimidated about this project. And before I can get the thing set up proper I must replace the power outlet I this room because none of the existing that work appear to be grounded. #youhadonejob

Thank God for my computer

Pray that when day x of building comes that I don't mangle the heatsink or zap anything. I gotta get a static guard one day.

I'm actually broke because I have to feed myself. I have one monitor. Although as a programmer, I'd say two more would be a blessing.

Also, you know what's fun? Double contractions. I'd've had two monitors this semester if my dad didn't keep one.

Mother board check

Mwahahahahahaha.

Hopefully construction can begin tomorrow. If not, then Monday.

Sorry some of the pictures are boring, gotta catnap.

Pray that I don't electrocute myself or fry anything with static.

I fear that all the precautions I'm taking will somehow convert static into alternating current.

I also stopped by my local radioshack and caught some store closing clearance. Bought Arctic silver heat sink paste, a static guard wrist strap, screwdrivers that aren't rusted, an extra cat5e cable, an active USB extension cable among some other things.

Yay

Day 8(9-i was up all night as usual.)

Okay first off,

11f8f008aff2c03847e3a276aa69d39a.jpg

I got the monster together.

Cool thing, msi motherboard made an enclosure with a depiction of a dragon. The heat venting around the processor BUILT ON the mother board turned out to be dragon cut-out.

The bad news:

Because I chose to use horizontal housing, the hydro cooler's radiator wouldn't fit next to the mobo (motherboard) neither would the hoses reach any other vent for the fan so we had to go with stock heatsink.

The silver lining (grey "I'm okay with this" area) :

Wasn't planning on overlooking anyway, I plan to upgrade housing later to a vertical display case and hopefully show off my graphics card,so I can make use of the cooler later.

The good news:

It runs.

Here's the front.

Looks clean.

Maybe you guys can make suggestions on where to put these.

After assembly, I ran I to an issue with the computer not recognizing my keyboard and mouse.

Local computer guru suggested using the included ps2 adapter for the keyboard and turning the computer off completely and restarting.

It worked and presently Windows is installing. Thank you God that it's all working and for being able to get it. Thanks to Adair and Curo for walking me through hardware, very special thanks to Adair for the shopping insight.

I will keep you posted. Hopefully it all doesn't blow up.

Update day 9

Comp doesn't yet register Internet so I can install drivers or register Windows. I'm going to connect directly to the lan bypassing the router next. Gotta get isp info from provider first nor before that, lunch.

To those I told that I'd be sleeping...

I really meant to,

but sleeping so late yesterday,

I'm just not tired.

Yet

Update 3:07 p.m. Computer successfully pings out but shows no it address when running ipconfig in the command line.

Tech support member on the way

LOL glad when I know all this stuff without help.

Update 4:13 p.m.

Tech guy (Jake, nice guy, pray he doesn't hold him self back in furthering his education for lack of confidence) verified full Internet functionality, which in turn suggested the computer was the problem.

Strangely the computer successfully pinged out with not ethernet connected :/

However I got the mouse working and was able to navigate the motherboard driver cd and get the lan driver installed.

Should be a lot smoother from this point forward.

Yay
