Talking Dogs and Walking Trees: Tolkien and Anthropomorphism

I wrote an article a few months back for a new magazine that has yet to have its first issue published (ran into some difficulties, I think). The magazine is called I Am Anthro and the article I wrote explored Tolkien's use of anthropomorphism.

Question. Where were the talking dogs in Tolkein's book?

Wargs (The Uber wolves) from LOTR could speak in the Black Tongue, and I believe some could even speak Westron ( Common Speech - like, English. )

So sorry about my delay... I was finaling (the joys of college...). Anyways' date=' the Wargs are one instance, but I was primarily referring to the dogs in [i']Roverandom[/i]. There's also a fox near the start of FoTR (only in the book) that makes a brief musing before going his own way. ^^
