I'm going crazy!!

Recommended Posts

I just got my laptop back from the shop... 150 clams to remove a virus and repair a dial-up modem... yikes.

We just got DSL today and I was excited because now I can have internet access from my laptop from home, not just school and work... but...

I swear... I'M ABOUT TO TAKE MY LAPTOP AND CHUCK IT OUT THE FLIPPIN' WINDOW AND THEN I'M GONNA HACK IT TO PIECES WITH A MACHETE!! AAAAGH!! It's being so super-retarded right now it's not even funny... I keep on getting stupid messages about "proxy server not responding" and it's driving me up the wall... it works JUST fine anywhere else, why not at home?!

By the way, I did a virus scan... 736 infected files O__O I removed them, but it's still acting wierd. Ugh... I hate Smart Engine :dodgy:

Sorry, had to vent a little frustration ^__^* *calms down* But everytime I try to type an address, the address changes to res://dnserror.ieframe.dll.htm..., or something like that. Everytime I diagnose it it gives me another stupid reason why it won't work, and I always follow the steps to fix it. Any suggestions?

In my opinion, when your laptop is at that point, you need to just reformat your hard drive. I always backup any important files onto a flash drive.

But when you have that many virus's, it is literally next to impossible to remove them.

Plus a reformat will speed up/get rid of a lot of bugs your laptop had.

Reinstall Windows.

Don't even try to mess with it beyond that.

Save what you can and reinstall. It'll save you a lot of headache.

Viruses have a tendency to foul things up, and reloading everything is just the easiest way to deal with it.

If its a...

Dell:

It should have come with a series of discs. If not, you should be able to hit F12 when you first turn it on and it will give you an option to run a diagnostics/recovery.

HP:

Hit F12 or F11 (I forget which) when you first turn it on, it will go into a recovery mode that will let hold your paw the whole way through and make things really simple.

IBM/Lenovo:

Hit the ThinkVantage (little blue) button when you first turn it on, it will give you an option to go into recovery mode.

Others:

When you very first turn it on, it should show a screen with a company logo and it should have some text that says things like

Setup Display

Something like that. If one of the options is "Recovery", hit the corresponding key.

If all else fails, call the company's tech support and order a set of discs for it. If you don't want to do that, I may be able to make you a disc you can use.

Messed around with proxy settings and got a connection back... finally. I am at school, so I have no idea whether or not it will work at home. I still need to take it in for repairs, but I know a guy who'll fix it for about $100 less than the shop where I got the estimate ^__^
