"View New Posts" not displaying all new posts?

Not sure why, but when I clicked on "View New Posts", it didn't show me all the new posts. I knew that some were missing because I'd gotten an email about one that didn't display, so I clicked on "View Today's Posts", and sure enough, there were a whole bunch of bolded topics, signifying those that I hadn't read.

 

Maybe I'm expecting to get all "unread" posts, but I thought that was the idea...

 

I might've assumed that it was giving me all posts made since my last post, but that's not true. Right now it's telling me there are 2 new posts, one to "Forced Christianity" (to which I just replied 12 minutes ago), and one to "Double mindedness" about 30 minutes ago, which I happened to read before clicking "View new posts".

 

How does it determine what is a "new post"?

Honestly, I'm not sure. Never use the feature myself. Typically, its new posts since your last visit. It relies on cookies to determin which posts to show so it could mean that your cookie settings are off.
