Dantalion† 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2015 I just beat the neutral route, and now I need to get the other two endings haha. Has anyone else played this? What do you think? Does it deserve all the hype it's getting? I for one really enjoyed the game. I loved the characters especially, and the fact that you can beat the game without killing a single creature. Penter† 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2015 Undertale is fabulous. I'm not really sure how much hype it's been getting, but the game has already risen to be one of my favorites. Definitely in my top 5 games. Complete all three routes (And play the pacifist after genocide to get a different ending as well). It's totally worth it. The Genocide route is hard to do, but the detail is just amazing. It makes you fill like the terrible scumbag you are for killing all your friends. The soundtrack is also amazing, and if you haven't you ought to listen a bit. Perhaps the greatest soundtrack made by a single person ever. ASGORE, Heartache, Spider dance among others... Also, Asriel is sort of the most adorable thing ever. Nyeheheh
norzman5 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2015 I've played it. Did the pacifist run then genocide and from playing it I think that's the best way to do your first run. I think it was pretty good. I'm really happy I played it. I got the soundtrack and listen to it while working a lot. The characters are a lot of fun and I like how different they were in both playthroughs. I think it deserves the hype but there is definitely a bit of overhype going on, especially with the not having to kill people thing. Some people think it's gimmicky but I think everyone should at least give it a chance. I'm not sure yet if I could say it's a favorite of mine but it's pretty high up there. I think the parallels to Cave Story are pretty cool because that's one of my favorite games for sure. Even the name shows it.Cave = Under Story = Tale I can easily recommend both to anyone
SuperKuddlor† 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2015 I'd like to play that game. Is it free? How much it costs? Norzman, there could be remixes like Cave Tale and Under Story XD
Rythe† 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2015 $10-ish on Steam?I snagged the game on universal positive reviews and to scratch a momentary itch, but have only played 5 minutes. Interesting start, but I had a Rebel Galaxy to conquer first. So far, Undertale is a game I'm glad exists and am glad to hear about, but don't feel particularly compelled to play through. Will probably change at some dark hour and then I can give my take.

I haven't played Cave Story yet, but it doesn't really look that similar since Cave Story is a platformer? (Correct me if I'm wrong). The main appeal that Undertale has is the theme of choices. The genocide ending hits me hard since it is aimed directly at Video Game Perfectionists, which is exactly what I would call myself). Almost every choice to kill/spare something has some sort of difference in the outcome of the game, and it's very well done. The attention to detail is great. Anyways, it's well worth the $10 Zvoc, even if the game is short. Get it. Play the heck out of it.

The similarities between both are from the story and setting and even seen in a little of the writing but it was all intentional. The name of the game was an intentional reference just like how Homestuck is a reference to Earthbound. Toby Fox worked on Homestuck as well. If you played both you would notice. Cave story doesn't have choices really but there are 3 different endings to it. I feel that Undertale at least too some inspiration from it. If you search online you can find other people talking about the similarities as well.
