want to connect wii/xbox controllers to laptop

Recommended Posts

long story short, i think im going to have to buy a bluetooth adapter for my laptop anyway, but im wondering if its maybe possible not having to do that. so basically, i have this laptop (or at least it looks just like it. except i bought it from target but i dont think target has it anymore)

and this wireless mouse

and thats it. i cant seem to find a way to connect a controller to my laptop without a bluetooth thing, but maybe i can somehow use the mouse usb thing instead? im pretty sure my laptop doesnt support bluetooth, but i can "Control Panel > Add a Device" but that never shows up anything.

i thought that was funny becuz i thought you meant you got the xbox one. but anyway, i know what your talking about. i might get one of those later too. i just want to use a game controller, and the cheapest and easiest way to do it, so that i can make games and use controllers but also tell random people (like viewers) its better to do the same for easier game play. i definitely hate using a keyboard to play games though.

Crazy person! Keyboard is the superior game controller! (-pc gamer)

Xbox controllers are the most common ones that people plug into their computers. I know there aren't official drivers for Wiimotes and I'm pretty sure there isn't for PS3 controllers either.

But MS has plug&play drivers for Xbox controllers.

You can also just get a wired Xbox controller, they plug right into a USB port.

i think im just going to get the xbox... one. the xbox adapter. i hate waiting though. but i will get it. i mean, get it online. do i have to use some kind of installation cd or something though? becuz my laptop does not have a disk drive (or cd drive, if thats the way to say it). so i cant install anything by reading a disk. and i think i saw somewhere that the xbox adapter had a cd that needs to be installed.

oh and well i guess keyboards are good, but i hate it when its on my laptop. if i play a game for even almost an hour using arrow keys, my hand gets really tired. maybe keyboards are just better for something like minecraft. i also cant lay down if i use my laptop. well i probably can, but it would not be comfortable.

edit (if anyone notices):

wait i think im just going to get a ps3 controller. or a xbox one (again with the xbox one!). i know you just mentioned it, but i was expecting them to be like $40 or something. but at least for a wired pink ps3 controller i seen at walmart's online store, it was just $11, with a usb cord. i thought they were not usb's, like the gamecube wired controllers (which was the last wired controller ive seen until today (becuz everything is wireless these days (more like years actually))).

but anyway though, i guess thats what im going to get. one of the wired type of controllers thats goes in a usb. i guess thats my final answer. im sure i can get one of these controllers maybe even today.

The Xbox adapter doesn't need a driver CD, no. They do come with a CD but the only thing on it is a program that shows you how much battery power you have left in your controller if you hit the center button. Kinda silly.

It will just plug in and work on a Windows computer.

too late i got a ps3 one that looks like a xbox controller. its some sort of Power A controller. i cant figure out how to get it working though. i mean theres a thing here http://www.gamefront.com/how-to-use-a-ps3-controller-on-a-pc/

but it just never shows up the device when im supposed to "load driver". but i do know it works, theres a thing on my computer that lets me test the controller and i know all of the buttons works and everything. but i just cant get it working, like as a mouse or keyboard. mostly becuz like i said, the device never shows up in step 4 in that tutorial. im not sure if it will ever work :(

the problem i think is becuz this is a "clone" controller. meaning its not made by sony so it somehow works by sending different data or something. which makes no sense becuz i would have guessed every single controller just tells the console something like "X:130,Y:203" or whatever. but anyway, im pretty disappointed. i dont know if a xbox controller would be the same and not work if its not made by microsoft. but if it  is made by them, its probably like $30 at cheapest.

well, theres still that usb wireless adapter. but i have to buy that online. and i have to go back to target and see if i can return this controller. it doesnt do anything unless if im testing it in some settings it has.

edit:

actually now i got something called joy2key (downloaded thing to make the controller work as a keyboard/mouse) and its actually working nice. man i am so grateful for that though. at first it was kind of eh. like, well, i dont need to explain. but it definitely made me feel better after i got alittle hang of it. but now im fine. everything should be done.
