Alric Evelyn Wilmot† 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2012 Hello there, my name is Alric Wilmot. I don't get on much, but I do try to read through the forums time to time. And I have noticed that there are many, or at least for a non-writing community, aspiring novelists. Well, I am as well. And I have been trying in vain to create a story for the better part of 4 years. I have written up to 15 pages of a story only to realize it is rubbish, and go on to the next one. I have created an entire world, only to have no story behind it. I have joined a Fantasy RP writing Forum to find inspiration. I have, for the most part, discovered that I have a talent for writing, but cannot write an entire story in one go. In that writing forum I mentioned, I discovered I could write 100,000 word stories if I had a friend helping out with another 100,000 words. In short, I found I was rather good at collaborative storytelling. Well, I have been trying once more to write a Novel. Seeing the aspiring writers on this site made me yearn to join forces with one of you. You see, while I do have fun on that other site, it is most assuredly non-christian, and I doubt any of them would really care for my extreme Christian morality. Which, of course, will be used liberally throughout any of my stories. So, i wanted to ask you all a question. Would one of you like to write a Novel with me? I expect it will take around 3 months, and be a little less than 100,000 words. It will most likely be Fantasy, as that is my specialty. And, of course, to justify this being on a Furry Forum, some of the races will be anthropomorphic animals. I already have ideas for the world. The story too, really. But I want to share that with the persons interested in case we have a lurker. (not the good kinds, the copyright vultures) So, who would like to join forces with me? P.S.-If this isn't the site to be doing this, moderators, please let me know, I will delete it upon request.
MinervaMunk 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2012 I'd be interested to talk more about this with you. I know how it feels to have writer's block. I used to write consistently a while back too until I lost my drive when I took a writing course during my time in an art high school. The teachers told me I had to "make the characters more believible by adding more 'human' flaws to them." For example, they wanted me to say certain things that I felt my characters would never say, but they felt related to the general audience. And they didn't like how nice my characters were because people like anti-heros now. While I have no problem with writing anti-heros I would prefer to write something with a moral standard and a meaning because books that blurr that line to much make me uncomfortable and actually kind of pissed. I have a few characters I haven't used in ages that I wish I could bring back to life because I've always torn the pages out of my journals these days, thinking that no one will read my stuff. I'm also into fantasy and anthros. I can also write stories with anthros and humans living together.
Alric Evelyn Wilmot† 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2012 Ah! It is nice to see someone interested so soon. Also, don't fret about characters with moral centers, we will certainly have that. Of course, not all people have moral centers, so we'll have them too. As far as blurring the line goes, I always enjoyed books that did that, it is a lot like real life. However, most of those books showed a nice line for the climax, so you know who to root for. The main thing, is that my morality is black and white, even if I paint a story with shades of grey. So, heads up, my writing is quite similar to that. If you read Branden Sanderson books, that's basically how I treat it. However, I don't really mind having a hero that has few moral dilemmas. But to not have any might make the book boring. Regardless, if you don't mind my writing habits, I'll gladly write with you.
VC_Wolffe† 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2012 Ironicly English was my strongest subject...even my teahers were a bit taken aback. Took awhile for me to get my parents to belive it...lol But anyway, I do some Ghost writting on the side. I happen to have one slot open. Would love to help you out. And I already have you on Skype. ^^
MinervaMunk 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2012 Oh! My characters have moral issues and they also do things to mature and show progress. Its the books that my teachers have shown me that have annoyed me. Like, "Soul Kiss" and weird stuff like, if humans and animals share a world together the human and the animal mating somewhere in the story... I don't like that stuff. I can understand character development, but my teacher was looking for very twisted main characters to write about and to be honest, that's just not me. I mostly like stories like Watership Down or The Lord of the Rings. Stories that move at a casual pace so people can be sucked into a story while also having enough time lapses to keep the audience excited. If I'm writing a fast paced story I would make it more like a mystery or a suspense/horror story. (I haven't written horror in a while). I do enjoy action scenes when done right too. What kind of story are you looking to write? Right now my mind is clear and unattached to anything at the moment so it will probably be a lot easier to try to get into the atmosphere of the story you're looking to write. I will say that I'm always more interested in worlds created by imagination. Historical fiction is TOO tedious and will put me through a lot of studying that I can't afford to do right now cuz I'm in college and I currently have textbooks I have to read and homework to do. You know how it is.
Alric Evelyn Wilmot† 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2012 @VC_Wolffe That's great, but I'm looking for more of a partner than a ghost writer. I don't mind sharing credit where credit is due. Unless, you were expressing interest in a partnership? However, if I may ask, how do you have me on skype? I've never shared my real name with this site. @Ira I'll PM you with the notes I have so far on what I want to write. It's not really coherent yet, just notes of names, settings, and what not. Everything is subject to change. If you've ever read The Mistborn trilogy, that is the closest thing I'm aiming for.
VC_Wolffe† 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2012 Yea im fairly certain I have you on Skype. Didn't we do a few RPs together? One portal themed? And another fallout themed? And you said you like feet? =P Unless that was a different fruit bat I met? Ghost writting is more then just one person writting a book. It works on many levels. Basicly it's just someone who helps people get their ideas onto paper, help edit, refine it and such. What ever they would need.
Alric Evelyn Wilmot† 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2012 Ah, I did not know that. I assumed that Ghost Writers were those who wrote for others, were paid, but never got credit. Thanks for the information. And... I am afraid you do have me confused with someone else. Sorry, but I've never done a Portal or Fallout RP. So, I think it might be another fruit bat. Galantine Knight Misticore† 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2012 I'd be interested but I warn you I am heavily a first person writer because I try to write as if I am the character itself... Not saying I use my own personality to write the character, instead I sort of try to act out a character... This gets rid of ridiculous puns and cliches that effect the reader, and allow a more in depth approach to helping the reader develop a more serious attachment to the character. Ive actually been considering writing with someone for a long time now! I have two separate novels totaling 600 pages size twelve font no double space. Along with too many shorts to count, I'd average about 100 shorts. I've taken creative writing classes in college and have fulfilled all the English electives for a bachelors. Not to mention I'm very outspoken never too afraid to surprise a reader. So to sum it all up for you, I want to try writing with someone else cause I read books of collaborative writing and the character mix up is astounding compared to the character mix up of solo writing. There is more air to breath, less controversy, plus moral support to avoid writing blocks. I've also been in many role plays and shared my work in American Furry, a story that I suffer a writers block in for the time being do to other ideas that pop in my already overly obsessive thinking. I know that right now some readers may be surprised to know I'm interested in something like this. So if you want feedback from the writing as well I might be of help with that should anyone consider writing with me. Sorry for the wall of text but this is just to show you that the size of a word document doesn't scare me its the lack of dedication that does. Also I'm currently unemployed at the moment so my time is fully available! I bet I could have most of my portion done within 2 weeks or at least have enough to share... Also I have some ideas in my head but who knows it may work in your favor and it may not. If your looking for a specialty in a writer I would say that I am great at being shocking and horrific. I love writing stuff like acting out the evil doctor or the crazy mad scientist... Its the best way to clean the air of the protagonist writing and try some in depth villain writing for the hero's arch nemesis. Also Ira and Alric if you already feel like you've got enough inspiration and team work I wish the best for you both!VC I know we write a lot together so if Alric doesn't want to work with you then I will! We could start our own private role play and develop it into a novel what you say?
