Instant chat Dungeon master... your thoughts

Recommended Posts

Now Im not sure how may people have played D&D on here but Ive had this idea for a long time, I want to make a D&D in which you text your actions after reading what you find. here is an example....

quote from dungeon master, "You all enter the dungeon and see three doors and a chest."

Adventurer one> opens first door

Adventurer two>examine chest

Adventurer three> listens to second door

Dungeon master, "Behind door number one is two zombies one holding a bloody great sword while the other a flaming ax, you have two actions adventurer one."

"The chest is rigged for a trap. Heavy breathing heard behind second door"

Adventurer one> swings sword and prepares to defend while moving back

Adventurer two> Moves to assist adventurer one drawing arrow and firing

Adventurer three> draws arrow charges for deadly shot.

Dungeon master, "adventurer one sword miss take hit from great sword to shield and take 30 hp from ax. Adventurer two arrow deals damage to zombie with great sword but seems unaware of it. Adventurer three door number two swings open inflicting damage on you. Behind door number two is a rapier wielding vampire who wishes to drink of your blood."

(this would of course go on for a while... but I think it would be fun in instant chat, not sure if anyone has tried it :D )

Yea I have had the same idea and have done similar things. But it works best when you all arrange a time when you can all be online at the same time.

It works, but as I have said, just need to keep meeting at the same time.

it's lots of fun, and I would love to join/help if you want.

Yeah that would be awesome VC and I was thinking the IRC. Also should we submit character sheets to the dungeon master like picture files of them scanned or a typed up PDF sent in an email?

That would be great. I have a few PDF char sheets, and we can always download them off the net.

And if the DD master had a copy of each it would help him make better stories and challenges.

But I think it should be left up to the player if they wanted to give the information.

Because I know sometimes the players like to in turn, try to challenge the DD master. XD

I don't know about you, but IRC would work just fine for the actual playing.

But maybe Skype would work better, allowing free privet chat rooms, direct file share, and even mic and video chat.

Just a thought though.

Not sure. Which ever Gallant wants to use, maybe a combination of all, or something else entirely.

Which ever it is, i'm sure we can get a copy of the rules to everyone if needed.

Sweet' date=' does it seem better that we do this on like a Friday or a Saturday? Friday always worked for me, also skype, I haven't installed it yet think you can walk me through it?

[/quote']

Hmm Friday and Saturday would work better for most i would assume.

But we would have to see who all is interested, and what their time tables look like.

And Skype is easy enough. Just google Skype download and you can get a free download for what ever computer OS you use.

Download Link

I assume you have windows? If not the website also has them for Mac OS.

You'll have to set up an account though. Username and password etc.

Ok cool, and lets try not to get too weird with this I'm sure some people wouldn't mind a simplified D&D or something not to extravagant to start out. Ive played pathfinder before and that's my only experience. However we do need at least 4 people to have a good time :) Oh and I just thought of something else :) Is their a program or some kind of printable game board online that we can all see and use that can help us track our movements during combat? U know a board that goes 1 to 50 and alphabetically on the other side?

I'll talk to Nova tonight or tomorrow to see if she's interested as well, I definitely am ^^

and somewhat simplified sounds great, too much nitpick in details takes some of the fun away

Speaking about D&D rules... I had a thought today, what if we were to make a sort of new one up for ourselves? Since we are furrys and all, new rules to include that sort of thing, new char types, magic powers, equipment, situations etc etc.

Nothing too big, but enough to fit our own little thing?

let's figure a time, are we going to roll characters alone then send them in or all together for the first meeting?

is multiclassing allowed?

is there a place online i can go get the character sheet you want or can you e-mail it?

hmm your right....maybe we save that for later.

I found some map making programs, and PDFs of chat sheets and some D&D rules, but I can't find that program where it allows you all to see the same bord!

We may have to just use file share to have the same maps, or maybe use a free website to host some of the information.

file sharing isn't that hard through skype i didn't think, could get it all done within the first few minutes of talking i would think

Ok i just found what i was looking for. (Thanks Robin)

MapTool will be an easy way for us all to view the same map at the same time.

http://www.rptools.net/index.php?page=downloads

Go ahead check it out and tell me what you think.

As long as we can get connected. We may have to use Hammachi to connect,

Yea it is easy, but thats only if people will actually use skype. If we can get MapTool to work that might be the better option.
