Daily Light for October 9

Recommended Posts

Morning

“You are a God ready to forgive, gracious and merciful.”

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.—And count the patience of our Lord as salvation.

But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.—Whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?—“Rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the LORD, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.

Evening

The words of the LORD are pure words.

Your promise is well tried, and your servant loves it.—The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.—Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. . . . I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.—Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.—Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation.

We are not, like so many, peddlers of God's word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.—We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word.
