Thomas, Maltuin 1 Report post Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) This is the first draft for Thomas. I really need to know how to further detail in general, add fur pattern, and add facial expression. In second draft, Planning to make eyes larger and bring them lower. Also raise jaw height by starting with a better base shape. http://imgur.com/a/0zMuU ________________________________________ This is a rough draft of an ocelot head. Once again I feel the need to slightly lengthen the snout and also refine shape of the nose. I used a more Impromptu /unorthodox method of drawing this time for finding basic shape, perhaps it will develop into personal style. I stopped at basic shapes this time http://imgur.com/PMFXzKB Edited November 27, 2014 by Tigris Umbrae
Cody Lucario† 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2014 I would advise maybe making the snout a little longer, give it more of that animalistic feel.
Thomas, Maltuin 1 Report post Posted November 20, 2014 Hmm. Josiah mentioned flattening. OK so lengthen/streamline snout
Thomas, Maltuin 1 Report post Posted November 20, 2014 Okay link is updated. In the second picture the muzzle is much better methinks, but still we need to improve the face I think the right eye could be set a bit too high. Something is sorta off about the eye. We may just add stripes and call it draft one. Unless you all have some suggestions
foxbunny† 1 Report post Posted November 20, 2014 The eyes should be a little lower and closer together. They should be about at the middle of the face vertically, and there should be about the space of one eye between the eyes. You can also use a cylinder as a guide for the muzzle. There is a little too much chin, I think.
Thomas, Maltuin 1 Report post Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) I kinda saw that with the chin tried to reduce on the edit run. Kinda like having a bit of chin there for expression. But Ive decided to do draft 2 from scratch. With a different tutorial. Probably use draft one as reference so I can see how they relate. Do run two -subdue chin - bring eyes to a more natural size and location -and hopefully bring in some facial expression as well as fur pattern Thanks for input so far. Keep it coming. And don't forget to sign up for an ambigram if you want one in the other thread Edited November 20, 2014 by Tigris Umbrae
Direlda† 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2014 Using reference images is another good way to improve. You'll want both pictures of tigers and pictures of humans to help. Live references are even better, though harder to come by. If you have a zoo nearby with tigers, then go there and study them, otherwise just use pictures. And for people you can study your friends or, if that doesn't work, yourself in a mirror.
Thomas, Maltuin 1 Report post Posted November 21, 2014 I was using some tiger pics from Google. I can see the differences but I think for the shape of the muzzle along the bridge, it's going to require adding fur pattern and shading because it's kind of a softer curve. Upon further I section I think the problem with the jaw is that the original head shop was to long. Once I'm more comfortable doing sketches without a guide I am planning to compare tiger and human face composition side by side. Unfortunately, there is no easily available live reference for me... Thomas, Maltuin 1 Report post Posted November 27, 2014 Please critique my sketch so I can improve. http://imgur.com/PMFXzKB
Rythe† 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2014 Hmm, I don't feel there's a lot to critique with this most recent update, at least in a meaningful way. You did well drawing out the shape and contours of the face.It really just comes down to 'practice more'. Art is a very time-intensive skill to develop, so you're on a very long road that's going to take a lot of dedication. The improvements and increased level of detail you're probably hoping for with this picture will come from that. Thomas, Maltuin 1 Report post Posted November 28, 2014 Oh I already know that I'm just looking for "major visible errors" trial and error is key but sometimes others can see errors you can't. So I'll take it that I'm on the right track with this one. This past one is practice towards a character in a story I'm putting together and I need to draw it with the jaw open on my next draft, any advice on how to accomplish that? Rythe† 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2014 http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2530269/ might help. Or your profile picture, now that I'm looking at it. Maybe http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14430884/ if you're looking for something less snarly.
Thomas, Maltuin 1 Report post Posted November 29, 2014 Second is more along the lines of what I need. This is all new ground to me though so learning to add facial expression to the semi realistic is probably going to take some toying around. At least it will be fun along the way
