Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”—You do not have, because you do not ask. “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” They rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit; therefore he turned to be their enemy, and himself fought against them. The honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.”—Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
