Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. . . . And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.”—The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.—The coming of the Lord is at hand. . . . Behold, the Judge is standing at the door.—“Surely I am coming soon.” Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.—Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.—Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.
