Kail† 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2010 I've been playing Final Fantasy XIII (13) lately. I'm on disc 2--and it's been great! Anyone else here played it? Just for the sake of conversation, tell me your favorite Final Fantasy character (not just from 13)! Mine, I'd have to say... well, my favorites are Bartz from Final Fantasy V, Squall from Final Fantasy VIII, Zidane from Final Fantasy IX, Tidus from Final Fantasy X, and... I think Hope from Final Fantasy XIII. Oh, and Vaan from Final Fantasy XII. I'm a sucker for the main hero.
HuskyDog† 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2010 I also say yay! I'm on disc 2, little over 20 hours in, chapter 9, if I recall correctly. XBox 360 version, so the cutscenes are compressed a little, but it's still not too bad. People may say that without a world map and towns, it's not Final Fantasy, but it has the heart of the other games, definitely. The battle system is top notch, too. The only other Final Fantasy game I played through to completion was 7. I tried some of 10 but it was at a friend's house so I didn't get far. It was pretty awesome, though. I also tried some of 4 but didn't get into it enough to get into a groove. But, even given that small set, my favorite was Red XIII from FF7. I loved the parts when they met up with him and directly after. Hilarious.
JuliaWolf† 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2010 This is why I want a X-Box 360. x_X I love FF and 13 looks so awesome,I guess I have to watch playthroughs on the web for now. XD I'm a sucker for Final Fantasy VII though, and the other games that were made for it like Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus. My favorite character..That's always hard question for me. x.x; lol Hmm,it's probably Genesis Rhapsodos from FF7:CC. However I do admit that I like most characters from the FF7 series,it's just so hard to pick..>_< And Kimari from FFX is cool too. XD
Kail† 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2010 @JuliaWolf Whether or not that would've been an easy guess for your fav. character is unsure, you all being furry and such It'd either be Red XIII, or Kihmari... XD or Cait Sith. Or... what other furry FF characters are there?
JuliaWolf† 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2010 @Kail I always have too many to choose from but those are good guesses nevertheless since I like those too XD I don't blame you at all for liking the main character's either, those are fun and cool. For some reason I have this fascination with Genesis..O_o; It's probably because he's obsessed with that Loveless poem/book. XD I'm always a sucker for characters that have a different air to them I guess. ;P RedXIII and Kimari are rad! They each have their own unique flair (lol? XD) and Cait Sith is funny. X3 The only other furry FF characters I can think of are Freya Crescent from Final Fantasy IX and Fran from Final Fantasy XII.
HuskyDog† 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2010 I wouldn't call Cait Sith furry, more like plushie. :-P Never liked him. Found him more annoying than anything.
Kail† 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2010 I'm on disc 3!!! 25 hours of playtime... hopefully there's at least another 20. XD
HuskyDog† 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2010 Just made it to disc 3 last night, myself. I'm pretty sure there's a good chunk of time left.
Ginga† 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2010 I just got my xbox about a month ago and I only have halo ODST. But FF13 will be my next buy. Oh and my favorite FF characters are Vincent Valentine and Genesis. I can't really pick between them, so they both are my favorites.
The Lone Wolf† 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2010 I don't have a system so, call me ancient...but all I have played is Final Fantasy I and II on my iTouch O_o...But they had epic story lines, as ancient as they are XD Also, being that old...I can't really say which charrie is my favorite since 1, you got to pick their names, and 2, they don't do much except talk a very little bit XP
Saz 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2010 Currently on disc 2, mixed feelings about it. I've played and beaten every FF game except for ff3 on the NES. Things I like about 13: -cool characters -battle system is decent after awhile, love switching classes on the fly -story is interesting -Frocobo Things I dislike: -The entire game is so linear. The last 20 minutes have literally been running forward in a narrow line and pressing A to trigger a cutscene now and then. Most boring dungeons ever -Advancement system for paradigms is cool on the surface, but really just limiting. You really just go from one node to the next with no chance to pick different paths of development. Why cant I just have it set to automatically give me the level ups instead of forcing me to go into the menu and advance the linear exp bar to the next stat bonus node -Easy. man is it easy. I find myself watching TV most of the time while playing it because 90% of the time autobattle wins for me and the 10% of the time it doesnt, I just have to paradigm shift once or twice -Party & babysitting: I'm 20 hours in, stop forcing me to use the default party and giving me tutorials about things I knew 15 years ago Favorite character? Thundergod Cid, master of gamebreaking power.

Thundergod Cid, master of gamebreaking power. [/quote'] This game takes a long time to ramp up. I am on disc 3 still (actually slowed down on playing it). The paradigms actually do let you focus on some things. Since you can focus on different classes, you can choose what to develop, and the off branches you can decide to ignore for now or develop as you go. It's not that much more linear than other character development systems I've seen. But then again, I didn't see it in Final Fantasy before, except in X, but I only got to play the first few hours of that game. Later in the game, things open up for you even more with paradigms. Summons are awesome. If you haven't seen those yet, you will love it. (I can't remember when you get your first summon). But they aren't your magic secret attack to win, either. You need to be in a certain state to use it, and you need to include it in your strategy, because sometimes, it won't help unless you use it properly. Since it's so story driven, it makes sense that you can't choose your party much yet. Having your team broken up adds to that. I love the battle system. At first it really is "press a and win" but as you get further, strategy is very important, otherwise you really will be dying constantly (I've experienced this). What I like about the battles here though is that they aren't just stupid hard (as in, equip 99 potions and a crapton of magic items), but you need to set up your party's roles properly and know how to attack and when. The less stupid hard and the more strategic wins I have, the more fun it is to play. It still is hard but it's not hard like Mario was hard. It's hard like chess is hard. That, I like. The game is very linear, though. I wish I had towns like before and a world map. It probably would add to the game. But it has the heart of Final Fantasy, and still is fun.
