Daily Light for January 6

Recommended Posts

Morning

Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us.

“And your renown went forth among the nations because of your beauty, for it was perfect through the splendor that I had bestowed on you, declares the Lord GOD.”—And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.—The Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.

Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways! You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.—Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.

Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.—Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.

Ps. 90:17; Ezek. 16:14; 2 Cor. 3:18; 1 Pet. 4:14; Ps. 128:1, 2; Prov. 16:3; Phil. 2:12, 13; 2 Thess. 2:16, 17 (Read full verses...)

Evening

The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught.

But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.—Thus the LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.—“You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”

“So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants.’”

For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”—But in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.—The prayer of the upright is acceptable to him.
