We read it in scripture,we have all heard it in many sermons and in most doctrines no matter what religion you may profess, but what where the actual intentions of John the baptist and later Jesus when they said this?
If you ask many Christians what repent means many will say it means to stop what your doing and/or to feel bad or guilty about what your doing. Others say it means turn around and go the other way. In the English language according to the merriam-webster dictionary is : 1:  to turn from sin and dedicate oneself to the amendment of one's life 2a :  to feel regret or contrition b :  to change one's mind or as a transitive verb, 1: to cause to feel regret or contrition 2:  to feel sorrow, regret, or contrition for
On dictionary.com similarly its similar verb (used without object) 1.to feel sorry, self-reproachful, or contrite for past conduct; regret or be conscience-stricken about a past action, attitude, etc. (often followed by of):He repented after his thoughtless act. 2.to feel such sorrow for sin or fault as to be disposed to change one's life for the better; be penitent. verb (used with object) 3.to remember or regard with self-reproach or contrition:to repent one's injustice to another. 4.to feel sorry for; regret:to repent an imprudent act.
Some Christians are aware that the Bible was originally recorded in 3 different main languages. Hebrew,Aramaic and Greek. Unfortunately due to vast differences in these languages to the English language an exact translation is sometimes not possible,at at times the translations used by many mainstream religions are indeed, incorrect and may convey a type of doctrine different from what is actually intended at the times the scripture was recorded for that religions own selfish purposes, usually for the control of its people.
There was a time early in my walk with Christ I was involved with a religion that professed that only the translation of the Bible they used was the correct or authoritative version of the scripture. Over time with many years of prayer, fasting and building my relationship with Christ I discovered that was a lie perpetuated by a doctrine of men designed to control their congregation. Unfortunately this is the way with most organized religions which is why I no longer follow any sect of religion nor do I only adhere to 1 translation of the Bible. With many tools available to us today we have access to 100’s of translations through websites like Biblegateway.com and BibleHub.com and others like them and also access to what is left of the original texts in the Hebrew,Aramaic and Greek and the tools of how to translate passages ourselves but this should “always” be only through prayer and by guidance and wisdom from the Holy Spirit in prayer so we can be given this wisdom and see the truth and grow our relationships with Christ like never before.
When you take in to account the Gospel and Compare Matthew,Mark,Luke and John you will understand this viewpoint even better because even in the same stories about our Christ and Savior, the details of the stories are not exactly the same, especially the accounts on the Resurrection of Jesus, who was at the tomb, how many angels where seen, ect, ect, ect. And that’s consistent with most Bible translations. The details where different, but the over all story and end result was the same, our Christ lived, performed signs and miracles, loved the unlovable, assembled a normally impossible group of people to somehow get along and love each other ,and then He was crucified, died on the cross and was risen again, but the details in the gospel are indeed different if you actually pay attention. Look at it this way. Imagine you where at a university and the professor was having a class with 100 different students. Imagine at the end of that class you where to ask each individual student what the professor said. In the end you would get 100 different versions of what the professor taught. Its likely the majority of the important details and end result would be the same but those 100 different accounts would indeed have different details, and this is the point the Holy Spirit is trying to get across to us to not sweat the small stuff and focus on whats the important parts of the story.
Of course we have the free will to do anything we like including following a religion,a certain pastor or church,or just 1 translation of the Bible,or even to not to follow God or religion at all and only to follow and serve ourselves, but I will tell you in the name of The Lord Jesus Christ that is not the way to the truth, but only laziness on our parts as a servant of God and willful ignorance, and false idolatry because you have traded the truth for traditions,or comfort or ease of learning and not sought the truth, but a lie and the ways, the ease and the comfort of the world that our Lord is trying very hard to convey to us that we are not part of. That includes traditions and doctrines of men,if we could just grasp what that actually means. Many Christians are aware we are told we will be persecuted and judged not even realizing it will often at times be by our own Christian family. Alot of us will blindly cling to one congregation and its doctrine or the views of one or both of our parents just to feel accepted by them and not cause waves for ourselves, but this is no different to those of us that cling to other things in the world as well. And in fact can even be worse if we are preaching hate and intolerance in the name of God. And also likewise if we choose to be ignorant of the Truth.
So REPENT! But repent in the way it was intended to us,and that is change the way you think and turn your heart To the Lord and “His” truth. A good article on this and the “truth” of repentance and its actual intended meaning void of religious doctrine can be found here. http://www.realteach...abel/Repentance
And as always my brothers and sisters in Christ, may Gods,Love,Peace,Mercy and Truth be with you always and forever. Remember you are not alone in your struggles, your love and fascination with animals and furry things is not a mistake and you are especially loved, chosen and cherished by Him who created us. Love you all,Be well :3
