In case any of you folks still use yahoo IM's you might have noticed the rather abrupt disconnect lately with a none too polite message telling you to get the "newest" version. In a move that's sure to be about as "popular" as when it eradicated the whole of geocities (Or when instead of addressing the problem of pedophile activists running user rooms on messenger, it completely terminated all user rooms, and removed the ability to make them, or when it bought up tumblr and opted to keep all the porn on it when it had the capability to remove it.), yahoo corporate has terminated the old yahoo messenger, in favor of something that can't even support bold/italics or underline text options (among other previously more advanced functions which no longer work with the new protocol. My guess is this is to drive a switch to "mobile devices" and tell the PC users to scram, but it's only a guess.) This includes attempted exclusion of third party IM clients, such as pidgin. I say attempted because a nice fellow by the name of Eion Robb took the liberty of making a .dll for pidgin to keep functionality (if it could be called such with regard to the new protocol) and use the new protocol. You can find it here: https://github.com/E...nyahoo-plusplus Of course, as with anything you download, be sure to scan it, either with virustotal.com or your usual scanner (or both).
Although at this point one might be wiser to pick a different messenger protocol altogether after retrieving what they can from their old accounts, considering yahoo corp's track record as previously mentioned (At least IRC is still stable). Hope this is helpful to folks.
