IRC
I forgot how I made the IRC link before so I'll just post a thread on how to connect to our IRC channel.

Some rules you need to follow:
1.Do not curse and never use the LORD's name in vain. This includes acronyms.
2..Be respectful of everyone, especially the OPs.
3.Do not Spam
4.Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. This includes explicit text of any kind, including nicknames.
5.Do not Post links to explicit or inappropriate content. Just because is doesn't specificity show something doesn't make it okay.
6.Trolling will result in a permanent ban.
7.No Violence beyond friendly cartoon violence. Do not attack someone with anything more harmful than a newspaper. Special allowances are okay for things like pranks but must be approved by staff and all people involved in advance.
8.Do not discuss or send links to pirated material.
9.Any new bots must be approved by Flechmen or Wolfin and their status must be communicated to the staff.
10.Do not program Wagzbot to break any of these rules.

=========
There are unspoken and undefined rules not listed on this page.

If IRC staff tells you not to do something, Don't do it.

The IRC staff will be held accountable for handling something poorly, but are certainly allowed to use the ability they have been given. These rules are common sense and are easily understood. Do not try and get around them.

If you're not sure about something, don't hesitate to ask. You may PM links you are not sure about for approval so long as they are not blatantly inappropriate. (That is to say, do not send the staff members to pornography websites.)

For disputes regarding abuse of power, please email Flechmen

Idiotic disputes including but not limited to:

Quote:"It wasn't inappropriate! it was free expression through art!!1!"

will be ignored or otherwise handled with the submitter accordingly.

RE: IRC
Tweaked the CGI client a little. It will let you connect to all the servers (not at the same time of course) with #christianfurs as the default channel

Spellings:

Or rather the Ops (it's an abbreviation, not an acronym; OP = Original Post[er]).

(Also, loving the "especially"... sort of conveys that everyone else deserves slightly less respect.)

"Is" and "specificity"... Don't always trust your spell-checker (Or rather, dew knot tryst yore spell-checker four everything) D:

"Lord" is not an acronym, and you are not angry/"shouting" while you write it, so it is generally accepted to capitalize only the first letter.

Never use the Large Or Respected Deity's name in vain. Tongue I suppose that works as an acronym anyway.

Rules:

Does this include acronyms like, for example, in this site's name: http://thedailywtf.com/ (Which, though technically cursing, is not considered offensive).

...Actually, it probably does include that.

But this is IRC... not real life. You make it sound so serious...

[Note: the reason I'm picking at these is 1. Because I can't stand misspellings in a forum post, 2. Because I think that when rules get too strict, it implies that the channel regularly has problems, and 3. Because I find that the occasional word which sounds like Dam but ends in an N should really not be treated as though someone has just executed a kitten. Saying "Oh gosh darn diddly" can really diminish the perceived magnitude of your problem, too.]

This is true.

This is referring to saying things like "OMG" (which a bot will automatically kick you for).

Yes it would.

When you have people giving death threats and mauling each other, something needs to be done.

1. That's your problem.
2. You're never there....
3. If it is an actual misspelling it will be censored and/or autokicked.

RE: IRC
On the off chance someone has a phone that runs Symbian (Nokia phones do) I would recommend mIRGGI for an IRC client. It's what I use, and works very very well.

RE: IRC
Hmm...

First of all, LORD is perfectly allowable when one cannot use small caps (like in this forum, as far as I can tell). From what I've found, you have to use CSS (which, I admit, I hardly know anything about). Copying and pasting also does not seem to work... The reason why LORD is rendered in small caps is because that usage refers specifically to the name YHWH and is therefore a sign of respect for the divine name (similar to the Jewish practice of never saying YHWH aloud). So unless small caps support is added, LORD is fine as is.

As for the rules themselves - I think they're good. The only thing that bothers me is the wording of the first one... I think that everyone is deserving of the same level of respect. True, the channel ops are important - I'm not denying this, nor am I belittling their role or what they do. I just think the phrasing, while not necessarily intended to, equates worth with position - which I find rather dangerous. It feels like dehumanization to me (and while it may seem like having a fursona would itself have a dehumanizing effect, in actuality having a fursona anthropomorphizes - raises animals up rather than dragging humans down - and highlights what it is to be human because anthropomorphism dances on the border of human and animal). So I guess I think the first rule should either end after "everyone" or, if ops get bashed on occasionally just because they are an op, replace "especially" with "including" to remind people that it's not ok to do that.

That's the problem with it, yes.

@1: That's true, but it still irks me. People have all the time in the world to edit their post, (as opposed to IRC or IM which is relatively fast paced), yet still leave mistakes in their text.
@2: I used to be. Wink I just generally forgot about IRC at one point, I can't remember what happened to make me forget. I still think that making rather strict rules makes the channel look like it has serious problems, though.
@3: That's not quite what I wrote:
